Culinary Art Therapy
What It Is
Culinary art therapy is a therapeutic modality that combines the sensory, creative, and communal experience of cooking with the emotional depth of expressive arts therapy. It's not a cooking class, it's a journey. In our signature 12-week "Nourish" Group Program, women come together in a beautiful therapeutic kitchen to cook, create, share stories, process emotions, and build a community of healing, one recipe at a time.
What Makes This Different from a Cooking Class
- Every session is designed with a specific therapeutic intention grounding, grief processing, anger expression, joy reclamation, self-nourishment, cultural identity exploration, and more
- Activities are facilitated by a psychiatric clinician who understands trauma, mood disorders, and the therapeutic process
- The focus is on process, not product - how it feels to knead the dough matters more than how the bread looks
- Emotional processing and group discussion are woven into every session
- You don't need to know how to cook. You just need to show up
The "Nourish" 12-Week Program
- Format: Closed group (same women for all 12 weeks)
- Size: 6–8 women
- Schedule: Weekly, Day/Time (TBA)
- Duration: 2 hours per session
- Themes include: Grounding, holding complexity, patience and transformation, anger and power, fermentation and discomfort, ancestral food traditions, self-nourishment, joy and pleasure, becoming your own herbalist, gratitude and community, and integration
